The policy roundtable will be an interactive session building on the day's discussions. The session chair will summarise the main issues identified and challenge the panel and participants to identify possible policy approaches and strategies at national and international levels. The session will also seek to prioritise current and emerging social, economic, regulatory and political issues of the participative web.

Daniela G. Battisti

Daniela G. Battisti (Ph.D. Rutgers 1994) is a Director within the Italian Agency for the Attraction of Investments and Economic Development – Innovation Unit and served until April 2006 as the Coordinator of the Research and Study Office in the Cabinet of the former Minister for Innovation and Technologies, presently Minister for Reform and Innovation in the PA.

Her expertise is focused on digital economy and in particular, on issues pertaining to the digital content, the evolution of copyright, broadband and convergence, ICT indicators and statistics. She works also on issues related to the digital divide and e-inclusion, in particular to the use of ICT for disabled and elderly people and the illegal and harmful material on the Internet. Presently, she is managing two major projects:

1. DIGIScuola, a public marketplace for educational digital content. The project has been allocated 25,9 million Euro for a 2 year period (2006-2008).
2. Italia.it, National Tourism Gateway www.italia.it; the project has been allocated 45 million Euro at Central and Local government.

She is a member of the Global Advisory Board for the London Business School since 2004. and Adjunct Faculty at the Loyola University - Rome Programme. Vice-Chair of ICCP (Information Computer and Communications Policies Committee.

Keith Besgrove

Keith Besgrove is the First Assistant Secretary, Telecommunications, Network Regulation and Australia Post Division in the Department of Communications, Information Technology, and the Arts in Canberra, Australia.

Keith provides advice to the Australian Government on strategic, legal and regulatory issues relating to communications and the information economy. His responsibilities include spectrum policy and planning, domain names, spam, consumer issues and broadband. He has been involved in various international groups including the OECD, APEC and ITU, and is the current chair of the OECD Working Party on Information Security and Privacy (WPISP). In recent years, he has also been responsible for research into the impact of ICT in improving productivity in Australia.

Keith is fifty six years old, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Sydney and has two adult children. He is also a graduate of the Wharton School’s Advanced Management program, and has completed an Australian Government Research Fellowship into innovation programs in Israel and Singapore.

Michael Geist

Michael Geist is a law professor at the University of Ottawa where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law. He has obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees from Cambridge University in the UK and Columbia Law School in New York, and a Doctorate in Law (J.S.D.) from Columbia Law School.

Dr. Geist has written numerous academic articles and government reports on the Internet and law and was a member of Canada’s National Task Force on Spam. He is an internationally syndicated columnist on technology law issues with his regular column appearing in the Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen, and the BBC.

Dr. Geist is the editor of In the Public Interest: The Future of Canadian Copyright Law, published in 2005 by Irwin Law, the editor of several monthly technology law publications, and the author of a popular blog on Internet and intellectual property law issues. Dr. Geist serves on the Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s Expert Advisory Board and on the Canadian Digital Information Strategy’s Review Panel.

He has received numerous awards for his work including Canarie’s IWAY Public Leadership Award for his contribution to the development of the Internet in Canada and he was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2003. More information can be obtained at http://www.michaelgeist.ca.

Sangwon Ko

Sangwon Ko, Vice Chair of the WPIE, Executive Director, Division of Information Industry Research, Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) Dr Sangwon Ko is the Director of the IT Industry Division and a Research Fellow of the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI). He is also the Korean Delegate and Vice Chair for the Working Party on the Information Economy (WPIE) in OECD, and a member of the Evaluation Committee for Korea’s National R&D Program.

Dr Ko was previously a Research Fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Institute, and a Lecturer at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Area Studies, Hanyang University, as well as the Graduate School of International Studies, Yonsei University.

Dr Ko’s main research interests include ICT human resources development, IT R&D, national innovation system and telecommunication industry. He has published on a range of topics, including the Consequences of Educational Expansion in Less Developed Countries, Issues in Science & Technology Human Resources Development in Korea, Structural Change and Employment in Manufacturing Sector, the Effect of Government R&D Direct Subsidies on Corporate R&D Investment, and the Analysis of IT Labor Market and Policy Directions.

Dr Ko has a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University in 1992, and a B.A. in Economics from Yonsei University in 1987.

Marc Rotenberg

Marc Rotenberg is Executive Director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC.ORG) in Washington, DC. EPIC established the Public Voice project (PUBLICVOICE.ORG) in 1997 to promote civil society participation in decisions concerning the future of the Internet. Mr. Rotenberg frequently testifies before the US Congress on emerging technology issues, including access to information, encryption policy, consumer protection for online services, computer security, and communications privacy. He also testified before the 9-11 Commission on "Security and Liberty: Protecting Privacy, Preventing Terrorism."

He has spoken several times before the European Parliament. He has served on expert panels for the OECD, the ITU, and UNESCO. He has also spoken before judicial panels in the United States, Canada, France, and South Korea. He chairs the ABA Committee on Privacy and Information Protection. He is a founding board member and former Chair of the Public Interest Registry, which manages the .ORG domain. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the recipient of several awards, including the World Technology Award in Law. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Stanford Law School and a former counsel to the US Senate Judiciary Committee.

Neil Anderson

Neil Anderson is the Head of the Telecom Sector for UNI Global Union, an international trade union organisation based in Nyon, Switzerland and representing more than 15 million workers in the services sector, including telecom, media, IT, and film. Neil is originally from New Zealand where he gained qualifications first as a Telecom Engineer and then in Industrial Relations from Victoria University, Wellington.

He worked for the Communication and Energy Workers Union in New Zealand as the officer in charge of the telecom sector and more latterly as Regional Manager for the New Zealand Engineering Industry Training Organisation before heading in 1998 to Switzerland to take up a position with the then Communications International, now part of UNI Global Union. Neil Heads the Telecom Department which represents more than 2million workers in the ICT industry in over 150 countries and has extensive global experience with employment related issues in the ICT industry

Joseph H. Alhadeff

Joseph H. Alhadeff is the Vice President for Global Public Policy and Chief Privacy Officer for Oracle Corporation, one of the world's leading supplier of information management software. Mr. Alhadeff is responsible for coordinating and managing Oracle's global privacy and public policy issues.

In addition to his role at Oracle, Mr. Alhadeff serves a prominent role in several influential international organizations dedicated to Internet policy, security and privacy. Mr. Alhadeff serves as the BIAC Vice Chair to the OECD ICCP Committee, head of industry delegation to the OECD Security Steering Group, and a Vice Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce’s Electronic Business and Information Technology Committee. In the US, Mr. Alhadeff chairs the Internet Law and Policy Forum, the Information Technology Committee for the US India Business Council and Government Affairs Committee for the Software and Information Industry Association, is Vice Chair of the USCIB’s E-Business Committee, Co-chairs the IT Committee of the US-ASEAN Business Council and is an ABAC Board member.

Prior to joining Oracle, Mr. Alhadeff was General Counsel and Vice President for Electronic Commerce for the US Council for International Business (USCIB) in New York. Alhadeff holds and M.B.A. in management and information systems from New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and a B.A. from Oberlin College
